Pourudu Review

Pourudu has Sumanth and Kajal in the lead with debut director Raj Aditya handling the megaphone. Pourudu showcases Sumanth in a macho action role. Sumanth proves himself in the role but the film is just okay.

Story in short: Ajay (Sumanth) is IAS topper and is the son of Pandu (Suman), who is right hand to Bhayya (Nazar). Bhayya is like a god father and every one including the police officials respect him. There has to be bad guys to irritate the good ones. So are Kasi (Kota) and his son. Ajay hates what his father does. One unfortunate day, Ajay will also have to take his father's way. Why and what are the repurcussions is what Pourudu is all about.

The concept of the film resembles a bit to Gayam. In Pourudu, the hero does it to take not only revenge but also to clean up the society as responsible citizen. He uses his muscle power but will not turn into a rowdy. He plans it such a way that it does not hamper his career.

Sumanth is good in his role. Kajal is beautiful and content in her role. Suman, as father of Sumanth, plays his character very well as a caring father and a loyal follower of Bhayya. Brahmanandam, as church father, evokes a few laughs. Ali, in 2-in-1 role, is not funny. Sunil, as Main Gates (mocking of Bill Gates), appears in short role but is hilarious.

Mani Sharma scored good music. Cinematography by Sudhakar is good.

First half of the film drags. By interval, it is clear that there is some stuff in the second half and the director is just building up for the second half (or whiling away). However, this part of the film could have been made entertaining. Efforts went that way by using love track, few comedy characters etc. but could not hit the right chords.

The film keeps gaining tempo in the second half and gets better towards the climax. Second half is narrated better than the first half.

If there is good entertainment in the first half, probably the chances would have been better. Overall, the film is okay.
