Vaana Review

Vaana is the debut directoral venture of MS Raju, who produced several blockbuster films in the past. Touch of MS Raju can be seen from top to bottom in Vaana. Placement and visualization of songs, green and plush scenic locations, MS Raju's guest appearances etc can be strikingly seen similar to his previous films. The film has songs, sceneries, good cast and supporting technical crew. What the film lacks is the soul. The film had good chances for evoking plenty of emotions. Somehow, it did not work out.

Story in short: One guy falls for a girl, head-over-heels, at the first sight. He starts searching for her. One day, he travels to Anantagiri with his mom to attend a marriage. The bride is none other than the girl he fell for. How he handled the situation and if he won his love forms the rest of the story.

The film is very much predictable from the word go but it is not boring. The film just goes on and one expects 'something' to happen next. But that 'something' never happens. The feel is missing. The kind of concept could have clicked brilliantly if sympathy is generated for the protagonist's character. That did not happen. There are a sequence towards the end that might have targeted the same. But it looked like a stretch than feeling any sympathy for the character. Kamalakar's music is adequate. Sekhar V. Joseph's camera work is eye catchy. Especially, the scenes at the waterfalls are captured very well.

Performances wise, Vinay is good as boy-next-door. This is his first straight film in Telugu. He had one dubbed release earlier titled Neevalle Neevalle. Vinay looked good and did a comfortable performance. His expressions are timely. His dialogs could have been better. Meera Chopra looked better in this film compared to her previous ones. She looked better in the emotional scenes than the teasers. Suman is very good in his role as the father of the heroine. Jayasudha, Sita, Naresh, Paruchuri, Dharamavarapu, Ajay are content in their roles and did justice.
