Ever since the showman started making films with other directors, he has seen more failures than successes. Not that his directorial ventures have been any successful (both his KISNA and YAADEIN were commercial flops) but even his small productions with other film makers have not done much wonders to his banner.
While GOOD BOY BAD BOY, which released last year, was a flop, KHANNA & IYER was a disaster. 2006 was reasonable though with APNA SAPNA MONEY MONEY hitting the bull's eye and 36 CHINA TOWN managing to cover costs. Still, there hasn't been much inflow with IQBAL releasing in 2005 bringing more appreciation than moolah.
AITRAAZ (2004) has been one of the better success stories for Subhash Ghai but JOGGERS PARK and EK AUR EK GYARAH, both releasing on 2003, were quite patchy at the box office.
This is what makes 2008 crucial for Subhash Ghai. Returning to direction after a hiatus, he is back to wielding the megaphone and would have his name flashed as a director in upcoming films BLACK & WHITE and YUVRAAJ.
